Nothing thrills me more than to see my plays getting out into the world–on their own. When someone discovers one of these works thoroughly on their own and gets passionate about it and then takes it to production, that is a thrill. It is also truly rewarding to find out that the plays are being taken on by an entirely new generation. In this case, Sir Francis Drake High School in the Bay Area. In an almost all-girl cast. Yes, there are bigger and more prestigious theatres doing the latest plays that are earning tremendous accolades…but for me, the idea that my work is being accepted by the new generation of theatre artists and is helping to shape the way they view the role of the arts in the world…well…..that matters to me. It really really matters.
