Sacrifice Zone: Los Angeles (SZLA) is an Arts in Action project created and curated by Michael Bodie and Paula Cizmar to look at the many ways our environmental policies–or lack of them–fail the people of certain neighborhoods. Neighborhoods where industrial pollution is rampant. Neighborhoods where health risks are a matter of everyday life. But there are community activists who don’t accept the status quo of neglect–and SZLA has partnered with them to tell the story of their ongoing work. In interviews, in meetings, in performances–and even at a community dinner–our work is growing and will continue on in 2023. Here’s a photo of USC artists coming together with the neighborhood activists of the People Not Pozos campaign of Esperanza Community Housing at Mercado La Paloma in LA.
