Look for a preview of the musical GOLDEN, book & lyrics by Paula Cizmar, music by Nathan Wang, in December 2018. GOLDEN is set in Paso Robles, California. 1914. The world is at the brink of war. Two real-life characters from history–Ignace Jan Paderewski, an Old World concert pianist and philanthropist, and Delilah L. Beasley, an African American historian and the first Black columnist on the Oakland Tribune–come into contact in a small spa town along the Central Coast of California. When Delilah introduces Paderewski to Theo Wally Johnson, a young Black piano prodigy, the old and new intersect, and each changes the way the other sees the world. Are we all free? Is life the same for everyone? Can we just stand aside and let hatred ferment into a dangerous brew of violence? GOLDEN will be presented on Saturday, December 1 at 7 pm.
