Women+ On the Edge of Democracy
Coming soon, fall 2026. It’s an anthology. A marathon performance. And a nationwide theatre action. I’m so honored to be one of the playwrights commissioned to write a short play for Women+ On the Edge of Democracy. It’s designed to be a “Collective Portrait of a Nation in Doubt and Transformation,” which is very telling. Doubt AND transformation. I like to think of “transformation” as being hopeful, even in these troubling times. Women+ On the Edge of Democracy is a partnership between The Flynn and the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize, and several questions were posed: ‘What is the current state of democracy in America? What can history, global content, or futurism offer us in this pivotal moment?’ This time I decided that comedy was the best way to respond to these prompts. Sometimes, for me, the way to be deadly serious is to approach with humor. More to come soon!
